Combining two great resources--our staff's expertise in adventure-based programming and our amazing Lewis Day Camp facility--Meeting Waters YMCA offers Leadership and Team Development Retreats for school, youth, and community groups. Programs range in length from half-day to multiple-day events. Each is customized to the outcome objectives of the group.

Over the past few years, Meeting Waters YMCA has facilitated Leadership and Team Development Retreats for many groups, including Vilas Middle School. Incoming sixth-graders at Vilas spend three days of their first week of school in community-building activities at our Lewis Day Camp. Our staff has crafted a community-building process that builds strong relationships between the students who have come together for sixth grade from their local schools in Alstead, Langdon and Acworth. Teachers, staff and students declare the core values that they will need to practice in order for the sixth-grade year to be "successful for all." Through a wide-range of activities, those values are tested and practiced. Ongoing debriefing sessions focus on the transfer of these skills, behaviors and attitudes back to the classroom.

Leadership & Team Development Retreats are designed and led by Steve and Sue Fortier, each of whom has over 20 years experience in facilitating experiential learning processes. Steve is the author of Youth Leadership in Action, a book on experiential learning published by Project Adventure.
